  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. If using, add red wine and let simmer for about 10 minutes to reduce slightly.
  6. Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer uncovered for at least 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
