Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅔ cup baking soda
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm water until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into long ropes and twist into pretzel shapes.
  5. In a large pot, boil about 10 cups of water; stir in baking soda carefully. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds before transferring them onto the baking sheets.
  6. Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
