  • 16 oz fresh or frozen ravioli (cheese or meat-filled)
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (preferably no added sugar)
  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage until no longer pink. Drain fat and add marinara sauce and Italian seasoning; simmer briefly.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with an egg, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a baking dish. Layer half of the ravioli over the sauce followed by half of the ricotta mixture and half of the mozzarella.
  5. Repeat layering with remaining ingredients: more meat sauce, ravioli, ricotta mixture, and finish with mozzarella on top.
  6. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
