  • 4 medium Yukon Gold potatoes (about 1.5 lbs), thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with unsalted butter.
  3. Thinly slice the Yukon Gold potatoes using a knife or mandoline.
  4. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper over medium heat; stir until simmering.
  5. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, then sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  6. Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
