Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in buttermilk and melted butter; stir gently until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface; knead lightly about eight times to combine without overworking it.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf about 1-2 inches thick and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Score an ‘X’ on top using a sharp knife.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on the bottom. Let cool slightly before slicing.
