Candy apples are a delightful fall treat that perfectly combines the tartness of fresh, crisp apples with a sweet, glossy candy coating.   • 6 medium fresh apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Toppings (optional): crushed nuts or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert sticks into the tops.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir until dissolved, then boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (150°C).
  3. If desired, add food coloring to the syrup.
  4. Remove from heat and carefully dip each apple into the hot syrup, swirling for an even coat. Allow excess syrup to drip off.
  5. Place coated apples on waxed paper or parchment lined baking sheets to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
