  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter and gradually add sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding milk and dry ingredients to the butter mixture until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. For caramel sauce, melt brown sugar and heavy cream over medium heat until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  8. Allow cakes to cool before assembling with caramel sauce.
