Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients on your counter for easy access.
  2. Boil salted water in a large pot, add spaghetti, and cook according to package instructions until al dente (8-10 minutes). Stir occasionally.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Sauté chopped onion until translucent (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned (5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste; stir well.
  7. Season with basil, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Drain spaghetti, reserving some pasta water. Combine spaghetti and meat sauce in the skillet over low heat, mixing until evenly coated. Adjust consistency with reserved pasta water if necessary.
  9. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese or fresh basil as desired.
